OLDS — Town council received a letter of thanks from Town of Bowden Mayor Robb Stuart for the efforts of Olds firefighters and other fire departments in the area to fight a fire that consumed the Bowden Hotel on New Year’s Eve.

The letter was included in Olds town council’s Feb. 28 agenda package.

In addition to the Olds Fire Department, the letter is also addressed to fire departments in Bowden, Innisfail and Red Deer County.

“On behalf of the Town of Bowden, please accept this letter of gratitude in regard to the collaborative services provided by all of the aforementioned fire departments during the recent building fire at the Bowden Hotel,” the letter says.

“On a bitterly cold New Year’s night, you were called upon to provide a service despite the weather and what was, for most, a time of holiday and festivities.

“I am reassured to know that our town is protected when in need by the combined resource of the town of Bowden fire department and all of our neighbouring municipal fire departments.

“This incident makes me feel confident that together, we have the professional resources available to tackle any emergency situation that may arise in the future.

“As first responders, you are an essential part of our local community. Thank you once again for your dedication and service and for keeping our community safe 365 days a year.”
