THOMPSON, Geraldine - SideBySide

December 28, 1939 - February 22, 2021

Geraldine Thompson of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 22, 2021.

Geraldine was born in Olds and raised in Sundre, AB. She was a rodeo queen and loved her job as a telephone operator, connecting people together. Her memories of living in the beautiful foothills are fond, whether it was ice skating, attending community dances or just spending time with her family and friends. She developed a passion while in Sundre, for watching the beautiful sky every day. Geraldine had a desire for always learning and was an avid reader who was never without a book.

Geraldine’s time at the Canadian Blood Services where she was a phlebotomist highlighted her passion of always helping people. Nothing gave Geraldine more pleasure than having conversations with the donors, getting to know them, and ensuring they were safe. Her altruistic motives touch the lives of not only her family, but to all who met Geraldine.

Geraldine’s fortitude was apparent when she packed up her very young family first to Venezuela and then Indonesia when married to Clay Thompson. Geraldine and Clay moved back to Calgary and raised their three children in the home she lived in for the rest of her life and one that she offered to many people as a safe place to stay, heal, and be loved.

There was nothing more important to Geraldine than family and friends. She loved to just sit and have conversations with everyone she met. Her empathy for others was truly remarkable. Geraldine loved to laugh and had that rare attitude of being always appreciative of what one has. Geraldine will be so sorely missed. She touched the lives of many people and we are truly grateful for that. Geraldine, thank you for making our lives so rich in love, and helping us to become our better selves.

Geraldine was the most amazing mother and nana as she always listened with no judgements, encouraged each of us to follow our passions and reach for our dreams. Geraldine was a mother and best friend who always believed in each of us and provided a love that we felt each day. We love you very deeply mom and you will always be in our hearts.

Her greatest passion was ensuring that others were always safe and secure. Her ability to make everyone feel good was a ray of light for all to see.

Geraldine leaves behind sons Carman and Matthew; her daughter Heather, grandchildren, Ashley, Connor, Ella, Randi, and Rene, and great-granddaughters, Kiera and Leah; son-in-law Tom, and her beloved partner Frank.

As one of ten children Geraldine leaves behind many of her siblings, Darlene Pearce (Garry), Ralph Phillips (Elaine), Judy Lambden (Al), Don Phillips (Glenda), Karen Young (Allan), Carol Peterson, Kevin Phillips (Tammy); sister-in-law Judy Phillips and their respective families including Raymond’s children; as well she was predeceased by her parents, Carman and Florence Phillips; brothers, Raymond and Keith; sisters-in-law, Dolores Phillips and Fern Phillips; brother-in-law Ron Peterson, nephew Russell Phillips and niece Garalene Groshko.
