March 4, 1943 - March 2, 2021

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear wife, mother and friend Alexandra (Alex) Spence on March 2, 2021, with her loving husband Terry of 55 years at her side. Alex was a caregiver at heart and she spent her life caring for family, friends, and community.  She cared for patients as a nurse, children as a preschool teacher, community as a volunteer with numerous organizations everywhere she lived, and family by giving all she could to ensure their happiness.

Alex was born in Stockton, England on March 4, 1943. As a young girl, Alex loved horses and going to cricket matches with her father. As a teenager, she met and fell in love with Terry, whom she married in February 1966. Alex and Terry, along with baby Allason, packed up their life in England and moved to Fort McMurray, Alberta in 1971. Fort McMurray was home for the next 40 years where Alex worked in the local hospital, worked with the SOS distress line as well as many other local charities and organizations. In December 2009, Alex and Terry retired to Didsbury where Alex continued her community involvement working at the Knox thrift store and joining the local hospital auxiliary.

Alex will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by her husband Terry, their three daughters: Allason (Gary) of Redwater, Tanya (Dwayne) of Rocky View County, and Lynne of Redwater, her 6 grandchildren: Victoria (Raphi), Robert, Liam, Rylan, Xander and Brealyn and her two great granddaughters: Claire and Anya.

Due to current events and pandemic regulation no services will take place at this time. The family would like to thank the Olds Hospice, Olds Home Care, and Encore Seasons staff for everything they helped with over the last few weeks. They made sure Alex and all her family and friends were as comfortable as could be during this hard time. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that donations are made to the Olds Hospice society or Didsbury Hospital Auxiliary.
