It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Don Spankie on Saturday, July 3, 2021.

Don passed away after a long courageous battle with cancer at the Red Deer Hospice Society with his family by his side.  Don was born in Innisfail on November 23, 1955, to parents Don and Marjorie of Bowden.

Don will be lovingly remembered by his daughter; Erin (Vince) Miller of Red Deer, and his sons; Layne Spankie of Red Deer, Shaye Spankie (Makenna) of Bowden and his grandson Treysen; sister, Pat Boychuk; brother, Dale Spankie (Janice), and his nieces and nephews.  He will also be missed by his close friends Geoff and Angela Malyon and many other friends.

Don worked for Johns Manville in Innisfail for 27 years. He then owned D.D.I Enterprises a Tree and Landscaping business which he ran with the help of his two sons until his health deteriorated. Don’s many passions included snowmobiling close to home and in Revelstoke, riding his Victory motorcycle around the countryside, and he was a very talented pool player.  He loved the outdoors and was happiest spending time on his acreage with family and friends. He also enjoyed watching his grandson play hockey.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Red Deer Hospice Society for their extraordinary care and compassion. If desired, memorial donations in Don’s honor may be made to: Red Deer Hospice Society
