Stephen passed away suddenly and tragically, and far too soon, in a motor vehicle accident near Penhold, Alberta. His loss is shared deeply by family and his many friends.

Stephen was born in Drumheller and spent his early years enjoying being an energetic and lively boy excelling at school, and eagerly playing hockey, baseball, and soccer. He liked music and participated in the school band program as well as learning how to play the organ and later on the drums. The freedom to play in the badland hills with his brother Dan and their friends provided many good times and memories. Other schools attended included Didsbury Middle School and Bert Church High School in Airdrie. Stephen`s love for sports continued throughout his school years playing football and excelling at hockey where he played at a competitive level.

When not in school or playing sports, he spent much time helping his Grandpa Gordon Maxwell at the family farm and later with his Uncle Larry Maxwell. He loved being outdoors, and participating in all aspects of farm life. This led to attending Olds College Agriculture Mechanics Program. For several years he worked in the Alberta Oil sector and had the opportunity to see much of Alberta especially enjoying the north country. After a few years he was drawn back to the farm life working in the central Alberta area and spent the last fifteen years at Anders Farms, Penhold and contract spraying for Keith Nichol of Penhold for 18 years as well. He was well known and respected in the farming community for his work ethic, knowledge of machinery and the agricultural industry, and his willingness to lend a hand to whoever needed it.

When not working he enjoyed golfing, camping, reading, music and being with the people who loved him. Stephen will especially be remembered for his sense of humor, infectious laugh, kindness, and zest for life. He will be sorely missed by friends and family.

Stephen is survived by his mom, Linda Maxwell-Hoedl; brother Dan Skiehar; stepsister Rhonda Hoedl; stepmom Linda Skiehar and her family, stepsisters Sandy Fransham (Tom), Sally Dougherty (Mike), Suzanne Sauer and stepbrother Scott Sauer(Sheila).

He was predeceased by his dad, Peter Skiehar; stepdad Joe Hoedl; stepsister Sandra Walker and stepbrother Garry Hoedl.
