November 1, 1980 - September 13, 2021

Roger James Clifford Quantz was born in Didsbury on November 1,1980 (All Saints day).  The third of four children born to Gordie & Shari Quantz.

Roger grew up in Didsbury with siblings Sharla, Trevor & Liza.  Roger's love of digging began in the sandbox with his brother Trevor and cousin Jordan.  Roger attended Olds Koinonia Christian school and was an avid student.  He enjoyed challenging his teachers on their biblical perspectives.  After school and on weekends Roger could be found working on jobs often accompanied by friends and cousins.

After high school Roger attended Peace River Bible Institute for a couple of months.  Having worked with both Trevor and Gordie in excavation, Roger decided to strike out on his own and start Monster Excavating with his bride Teresa. Roger and Teresa were married on October 9, 2004 in Olds. They began their life together in Didsbury.

The couple enjoyed traveling, camping, and fishing on the west coast.  In 2006 Roger & Teresa moved to Carstairs where Mercedes Anne was born three years later, and Nicolas James completed the family in 2011. The family lived in their holiday trailer for too long while waiting for their home in the country to be built.  Some of their fondest memories as a family included travelling to warm destinations.  Winter fun included skiing, having skating parties and snowmobiling on their acreage.  Summer fun included camping and being with Roger at work.

Roger lived his life with integrity.  He was a man who was full of peace which he found through his faith in Jesus. This past May, Roger was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. Roger passed away on September 13th very peacefully, surrounded by family.  Roger is survived by his loving wife Teresa, children Mercedes and Nicolas, parents Gordie & Shari Quantz, siblings Sharla Quantz, Trevor (Julie) Quantz and Liza (Jared) Stimson, as well as in laws Howard & Anne Schafer, Glen Schafer, Rob (Elizabeth) Schafer and precious nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Saturday September 18, 2021 at the First Baptist Church, Olds with Pastor Brent Reilly officiating.  Interment was held at the Didsbury Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to a trust fund for Roger’s children to [email protected].  Heartland Funeral Services Ltd., Olds entrusted with arrangements. 403-507-8610   Condolences may be made or viewed at www.heartlandfuneralservices.com
