May 29, 1935 – March 20, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, papa, brother and uncle. Tom passed away peacefully on Saturday March 20, 2021 at age 85.

Thomas Christopher was the eldest son born to Chris and Rita (Inge) Lashmar, on May 29, 1935 after his mother made the long trip to Calgary, AB in the mail truck from their family farm on the Fallen Timber Creek. Tom attended Graham and Cremona schools before working on the CPR and then Alberta Water Resources, returning home whenever he could from far distant places on Fridays to take part in his favourite pastime – dancing. Then one weekend at a dance in Dogpound he met Evelyn Kinch and after a short courtship they were married in Cochrane on November 11, 1961. After a short period of freedom and time for fishing, berry picking and ball games, they raised four sons.

Tom had a passion for farming, treating all of his cows as pets, and drove school bus for 40 years in his spare time. When he retired from bus driving, he was picking up and dropping off the grandchildren of the kids he had driven to school when he first started. He was an old time country music lover, playing the guitar and fiddle every chance he could, an avid fisherman known for his “7 cast – 7 fish” method and couldn’t wait for his yearly trips to Fairmont with family and friends to soak in the hot tub. Tom will be remembered for his infectious smile, generosity, kind compassionate spirit, and dearly missed by his family, friends and many people whose lives he touched.

Tom was predeceased by his parents Christopher and Rita Lashmar, and brother Alfie. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Evelyn; sons, Darcy (Crystal), Stephen (Anna), Michael (Dawn), Justin; grandchildren, Kylie (Ryan), Jadon, Emma, Calleigh, Dawsyn, Kohen, Elijah, Leiloni, Jonas, Nora and Isacc; brother David (Sharon); as well as all of the inlaws and outlaws on both sides of the family, nieces, nephews, family friends, and neighbours.

A private funeral service was held on March 26th for immediate family.  A link to download a recording of the service will be available by contacting the family or on Thomas’ obituary at Cochrane Country Funeral Home, for a period of 2 weeks starting approximately April 2. Interment of ashes to take place at Big Prairie cemetery at a later date for everyone interested to attend.
