It is with deepest sadness the family announces the passing of Stanley Gunnar Johannson on April 21, 2021 at the age of 86 years.

He leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 63 years, Helen (nee Liivam), son Terry (Marilyn), son Wes, daughter Wendy White (Frank), and son Darren (Sara), and their families. He is survived by his sister Darlene Bodwell, brothers Jerry (Joyce) Johannson, George (Cathy) Johannson, sister Linda (Jim) Rehn, in-laws August and Val Liivam, Violet Liivam, George Liivam and Ken Liivam.

He is predeceased by his sister Viola Hillman, brothers in-law Elmer Hillman, Joe Bodwell, John Liivam, Harold Liivam and Larry Liivam.

Stan was the eldest son of J.K. (Big Joe) and Hazel Johannson.  He was a farmer all of his life south of Markerville until he fully retired from farming in 2005.  He and Helen loved to travel and visited numerous countries and states, eventually finding a winter home in Sun City West, Arizona.  He truly enjoyed the family and friend gatherings at the Johannson Family Kampground.

In spite of battling dementia for the last years of his life, he never lost his smile and good nature.  Sunset Manor became his new home, and we appreciate the compassionate care he received there.

A celebration of Stan’s life will be postponed to a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Stephan G. Stephansson Icelandic Society, 114 Creamery Way, Markerville AB, T0M 1M0.  Please visit  www.meaningfulmemorials.ca  for a more detailed obituary.  Condolences for Stan's family may be emailed to [email protected]. Meaningful Memorials Funeral Service, Red Deer and Central Alberta   587-876-4944
