Hilton - Ron obituary photo

March 26, 1943 – November 16, 2021

A devoted husband, father, uncle, brother, and friend, Ron Hilton, passed away peacefully on November 16th, 2021 in Indian Head, Sk.  Ron will be remembered by his family and friends as a kind & generous man who made us laugh with his perfectly timed, and groan worthy, “dad jokes”. Ron moved to Indian Head in 2014 with his wife, “JoJo” just as she received a dementia diagnosis. Ron’s love for JoJo shone through as he supported her day in and day out, eventually spending his last days by her side at Golden Prairie Care Home.

Ron’s accomplishments in his life and career are impressive and demonstrate his dedication to building strong communities. As a Professional Engineer, he began his career with the provincial government of Alberta in Water Resource Management. With a young family, he moved into municipal service, working as Town Manager in Olds followed by City Commissioner in Swift Current. After “retiring” he continued on working as Interim City Manager in Humboldt, and Municipal Manager for the RM of Sherwood. He later co-founded ADVOCO Consulting with Keith Schneider to bring their collective expertise to municipalities across Saskatchewan. Ron was also active in the Anglican church and supported Joyce in her parish communities after she was ordained.

Known for having the ‘best buns” in Olds, Alberta - Ron could often be found in the kitchen baking or cooking for his family.  He loved to garden, growing flowers from seed every spring then tending to his beautiful & bountiful garden every year. An avid sports fan, Ron never missed his daughter’s soccer, softball or ringette practices and games. He was a loyal supporter of the local hockey teams in Olds & Swift Current and loved watching “his teams” play on TV. Ron’s infectious love of sports often turned anyone watching with him into a fan right alongside him.

Ron is survived by his wife, Joyce Hilton (nee Loftus) and 3 daughters Robin (Indian Head), Jennifer (Edmonton), and Jill (Saskatoon), sons in law Steve Bowden, Greg Schmidt, & Greg Walker and grandchildren Chloe, Sophie, & Daphne Bowden, and Graeme Schmidt. In addition, he will be deeply missed by his niece Kellie Faye (Qualicum Beach), brother Tom Hilton (Calgary), sister-in-law Alanna Loftus (Calgary) and all of his nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. The family would like to thank Kelley Phillips and the staff at Golden Prairie for their commitment to fulfilling Ron’s palliative care plan.

Funeral services were held at St. Paul’s Anglican Cathedral in Regina on November 22, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with The Very Reverend Mike Sinclair officiating. Those who wish to watch the funeral virtually may view the service online via the church’s Facebook page.  Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to The Canadian Cancer Society, 910 McIntyre Street Regina, SK S4P 2R3 or the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada, 20 Eglinton Ave. W. Suite 1200, Toronto, ON M4R 1K8. Arrangements in care Tubman Cremation and Funeral Services. On-line condolences may be made at tubmanfh.com.
