November 29, 1918 - February 29,2020

Elsie May Warne born November 29, 1918 in Belmont, Manitoba, passed away in Olds, Alberta on February 29, 2020 at the age of 101 years. Elsie enjoyed a long healthy life, keeping her love and wit until her last day.

Elsie moved with her parents Gordon and May MacPhail to Peace River, Alberta along with her 2 sisters and 5 brothers. Duncan, Margaret, Rodrick, Bruce, Frank, Phyllis and Hugh who have all predeceased her.

As a young woman Elsie moved to Fairview, Alberta and worked at the Fairview College where she met and married Harry Warne on July 13, 1963. They went on to have two children Stephen (predeceased), and Laura. The family moved to Edmonton in 1975 then onto Olds, in 1977. Elsie’s granddaughter Jaquelynne was born in 1991.

Elsie spent the later half of her life caring for and spending time with family. Driving her kids to their many sporting events, and always staying active with daily walks, cross country skiing with the family, or flying a kite with her granddaughter. Elsie was an avid reader, loved her daily crossword and counted knitting, crocheting and quilting among her many hobbies.

Elsie was an active member to the United Church along with her husband Harry. She could be relied on for providing amazing baked goods at any church function. Elsie received a lifetime membership in recognition of her years as a member of the United Church Women (UCW). She volunteered doing meals on wheels deliveries for many years.

Elsie will be greatly missed by her family that included many nieces and nephews. She was specially close to the Tighe nieces who were a great comfort to Elsie, Harry, Laura and Jaquelynne this past year making many trips to spend time with the family.

Elsie’s family would like to thank the Wildrose Clinic staff along with the Olds Hospital Team, the Olds homecare team, and the Olds Hospice Society along with their volunteers who provided care and comfort this past year.

In lieu of flowers memorial tributes may be made to the CNIB or the Olds and District Hospice Society.

A Celebration of Elsie’s Life will be held at a later date.
