MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - County council has approved the allocation of $225,929 to help fund a rail crossing improvement project in conjunction with Canadian Pacific Railway.

The crossing is located south of Didsbury at Range Road 15 at Mile 42.42 south of Township Road 310.

“Due to the angled alignment, crossing arms and lights are recommended,”  administration said in a briefing note to council. “This improvement is proposed as being funding 50/50 by Mountain View County and CP Rail, with opportunity for partial funding from the Ministry of Transportation through the rail safety improvement program.”

Should grant funding become available, the county’s portion of the project could be reduced to 25 per cent or $112,964.

Canadian Pacific Railway is planning to complete the crossing improvements in 2023, council heard during the Feb. 22 meeting.
