MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY — County council has approved a number of updates to grant funding policies and related procedures, including those involving playground funding.

The overview came during a recent regularly scheduled council meeting.

Council approved an updated rural community hall grant funding policy No. 8014, which includes the following new wording: “Mountain View County supports community development in rural areas, including the provision for playground equipment at rural community halls to support the needs of the rural community.”

The accompanying procedure now reads, in part, that, “Rural community halls may apply for funding to be used for playground structures/equipment, installation, and site preparation as required” and that, “funding is generally intended for those organizations that do not have access to regular funding from other sources.”

Rural schools, school boards, school divisions, school parent councils or advisory boards are eligible to apply under the playground funding stream of this grant.

A minimum of 50 per cent is required to be raised or committed for playground projects, and operating costs are not eligible.

A group, association or non-profit society submitting an application must have been in existence for at least two years as of the application deadline and operate within Mountain View County.

The rural community grant funding policy No. 8015 was also updated regarding agricultural-related project funding.

The purpose of the updated policy now states that it is to “encourage community organizations throughout Mountain View County that provide recreation and culture or agricultural opportunities that are affordable and accessible to all, and to ensure a fair and equitable method to distribute funding under this grant program.”
