MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - The county has renewed its contract with Bow Valley Services for bridge inspection in the municipality for 2022-25.

The company has had a contract with the county since 2009 to assist in delivering multiple aspects of the county’s bridge program, with the current contract set to expire at the end of 2021.

“I think going with the contractors that are always easy to work with and respond to our questions and concerns is always the way to go,” said reeve Aalbers.

The county’s bridge program operates on a five year cycle, with every bridge in the county inspected at least once every five years.

“By entering into a year-four agreement with Bow Valley Bridge Services this will ensure we have one constant completing an entire inspection cycle at a secured price,” administration said in a briefing note to council.

“Other service they provide to the county includes assisting in creating long-range plans, creating maintenance programs, determining budget estimates.”

Under the contract the company will be paid $290 per standard bridge and $260 per culvert in 2022-23, and $305 per standard bridge and $273 per culvert in 2024-25.

Garry Roberts is with Bow Valley Bridge Service.

“I am confident that we have the experience and resources to provide Mountain View County with high quality, reliable inspection and consulting services and expert advice to assist you in managing your bridge program,” said Roberts.

Bow Valley also conducts bridge inspections for Wheatland County, Rocky View County, the MD of Foothills and bridges located on provincial highways, council heard.
