MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY -  County council has approved a $36 million 2021 interim budget, which will remain in effect until the 2021 operating budget is approved. The move came during a recent regularly scheduled council meeting.

“As the 2021 operating expense budget is yet to be determined, council must approve an interim operating budget to cover the normal ongoing municipal operations of the county,” Robert Beaupertuis, director of corporate services, told council.

“The operating budget will be finalized after the assessment roll is completed and the Alberta School Foundation Fund requisition amount has been determined by the province.”

The 2021 interim budget calls for revenue of $33,511,000, down slightly from 2020’s total of $34,438,699. Total expenses are set at $36,052,000, down from $40,817,074 in 2020.

Borrowing bylaw approved

Council also approved a new bylaw approving short-term borrowing of $12.5 million.

The bylaw states that: “Council of Mountain View County deems it necessary to borrow the sum of $12.5 million to finance operating expenditures in 2021 until such time as the taxes levied can be collected which shall not exceed on year from the time of borrowing.”

The total taxes levied or caused to be levied for the year 2021 by Mountain View County for all purposes is estimated to be $44 million.
