Proposal should be considered for 20-year capital list

MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - County council is calling for the provincial minister of Infrastructure to support Sundre health care going forward.

During the recent regularly scheduled council meeting, councillors approved a one-page ministry summary to be sent to the department.

The summary calls for the “Sundre community based rural health campus to be added to the provincial 20-year capital infrastructure plan that is expected to be approved shortly should the Sundre Hospital Futures Committee secure support of the Minister of Health in adding the hospital as a capital priority.”

The committee submitted a proposal in September for ministry consideration to be included in the long-range infrastructure plan as a way to invest in rural health care, community growth and investment attraction.

The submission outlined the opportunity for health training and learning opportunities in a rural setting, and identifies that the Sundre hospital is on the Central Health Zone’s identified infrastructure list for needed upgrades.

“Mountain View County understands the financial strains the government is currently facing,” the summary states. “However, as the province is currently undertaking an approach of economic stimulus to boost economic activity, and the Sundre Hospital Futures Committee has the opportunity to pursue federal social infrastructure funding thanks to the offer of support from Alberta Infrastructure administrative staff, the timing is optimal to consider this project.”
