local-news

MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - The county's municipal planning commission has approved a development permit for a straw bagging operation and associated storage building on a 102.83 acre agricultural property in the Netook rural neighbourhood.

The owner of the operation is Canadian Hay Properties Inc., with the property located about 2.5 kilometres north of Highway 27 on the east side of Rge. Rd. 10A in Mountain View County.

The $450,000 project will be housed in a 20,400-square foot building that will provide an area for a straw bagging machine and storage of the finished product, with the remainder of the building to be used for covered straw storage in conjunction with Barr-Ag Processing, members heard.

No residences are adjacent to the subject parcel and the small subdivided parcel within the subject parcel within the subject quarter section is zoned I-BP business park district.

Hours of operation will be from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., with up to three employees.

A variety of vehicles will be used to support the operation, including semi-trucks, forklifts and tractors.

The approval comes with a number of conditions, including that the landowner will “maintain a non-intrusive business and preserve the privacy and enjoyment of adjacent properties” and will “ensure that outside storage of waste hay product will be cleaned up continuously not to cause fire hazard or offsite impacts.”

The municipal planning commission is the county’s approving authority, made up of county councillors and appointed public members.
