Three students attending Sundre High School (SHS) are sports stars in the community. Raised in Sundre, brothers Joris, Jelmer and Jitse vanden Hadelkamp each take pride in their athletic abilities.

The Olds High School Spartans boys soccer team was in tough against the Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School Raiders on May 9, losing 5-2 on the Spartans' field.

The Olds Stingers came out on the wrong side of an 11-5 score against the Calgary Axemen-Mavericks on May 12 in Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League play. The Stingers got on the board first, with a marker by Shea Layden four minutes into the game.

Deer Meadow School sent six players to the South Central Zone Badminton Championships on May 2 in Banff and Canmore.

It was a battle of speed vs. size during the home opener for the Rockyview Silvertips lacrosse team at the Olds Sports Complex on May 5.

Reg Carrick, who led the Olds College women's varsity basketball team to a bronze medal in the national Canadian Colleges Athletic Association championship in March, will be returning to helm the team in September.

Local powerlifter Mark Oxer claimed second place in the 93-kilogram division of an Alberta Powerlifting Union competition in Calgary on April 20.

The Olds High School Spartans were defeated 31-20 in the team's first match of the Central Alberta High School Rugby League season by the Rimbey Junior-Senior High School Spartans on May 1.

Two Innisfail Jr./Sr. High School students walked away with medals after a stellar performance in mixed doubles Zone championships April 27 at Hunting Hills High School in Red Deer.
