Two local girls who were part of Team Alberta that won the hockey gold medal at the Canada Winter Games in Halifax in late February were enshrined in the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame on June 11.

The team won the tournament with a 7-0 record at the weeklong event. Hannah Mousek of Olds and Taryn Baumgardt of Innisfail were part of the team that surrendered only five goals throughout the tournament.

“It's really exciting. I'm honoured,” Mousek said.

Mousek played midget AAA hockey last season with the Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs and plans to do the same for the upcoming season.

Baumgardt said she too, was honoured to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

“It's a really big honour. It was an amazing experience,” she said.

Baumgardt said the ceremony itself was neat, with a team sweater with all the signatures of the players on it, and many photos of the final game on display.

“It was amazing to look at and remember everything that happened down there. It was great because we got all the girls back together. (A) lot of great girls on that team,” she said.

Baumgardt will be trying out for the same Alberta team again in July. Last year, she played midget hockey for the Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs, the same team that Mousek played for.
