The Olds Midget Mustangs had a perfect weekend as they look to finish the season on a strong note.

By virtue of a 6-4 win over the Lacombe Rockets and a 6-3 win over the Rocky Royals on the weekend, the Mustangs moved to within one game of .500 on the season with three games left on their North Central Minor Hockey Association Midget Tier I schedule.

In Saturday's win over the Rockets, the team they trail by two points in the standings with two games in hand, Quinn Wiberg scored a pair of goals, including the game winner early in the third period to lead the Mustangs attack.

Josh Hammer, Brandon Kosik, Rhett Couture and Nishlan Naidoo also scored for the locals while Jayden Adrian made 26 saves to pick up the win in net.

Sunday, the Mustangs once again used home ice to their advantage to post the win over the Royals. Couture led the Olds squad with a pair of goals while Riordan Oulton added a goal and three assists. Also scoring were Wiberg, Cory Lamboo and Colton Weseen while Kyle Kardos picked up the victory between the pipes with 30 saves.

The next league action for the Mustangs is Feb. 19 when they host the Stettler Blues at the Sports Complex followed by a trip to Innisfail for a showdown with the AA Flyers, the team the Olds squad is looking to track down for second place in the league.

Currently, the Flyers hold a four-point lead on the Mustangs who would have to beat Innisfail and get some help along the way to move into second spot.

All six teams in the league make the playoffs with the top two teams getting a bye.
