IHS senior girls maintained their undefeated status last week, finishing the last league game of the season victorious against the rival undefeated team from Camrose.

“It was nerve-racking,” said Taryn Kramer of the final game of the night. The girls beat Camrose 25-21 and 25-22 the first two rounds and went to take victory in the third but fumbled and lost 13-25.

The fourth game was a close round, with both teams staying within points of each other.

“It was intense,” said Shea Thompson. The team, made up of seven Grade 12 students and two Grade 11s, will now head to zones Nov 19 in Lacombe competing with the top eight 3A schools.

“We’re so happy, this hasn’t happened for a long time,” said Haley Weinrauch, who said she’s never been on a team throughout high school that’s placed this well.

Coach Jeff Anderson said he’s proud of the girls but said they’ll have to regain their focus if they want to keep up during zones.

“The first two games were strong. It should have been a quick three wins and we’re done,” said Anderson of sloppy plays in the third game that led to defeat and ultimately a fourth game.

The team will play at Central Alberta Christian High School and Lacombe Composite High School for zones next weekend.

This Wednesday night starting at 5p.m. they will play a home game against Delburne as part of the Chinooks Edge School Division north 3A/2A championships. If they win Wednesday, they’ll then play against the top school in the division from the south, giving them a chance to win banner as champs for the division.
