Trojans edge Olds Broncos 4-3 in women's hockey

OLDS — The Olds College Broncos women’s hockey team was edged 4-3 by the SAIT Trojans during the student appreciation game on Jan. 16 at the Sportsplex.

The Broncos jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Bree Edwards at 4:31, assisted by Brianna

Marsh and Abby Webster; and by Karli Fredrick at 10:34, assisted by Maddy Black and Brynne Doerksen.

Shots at the end of the first period were 12-5 for SAIT.

However, the Broncos’ lead didn’t last long. The second period belonged to the Trojans.

They scored four unanswered goals — including a power-play marker — to go up 4-2.

Shots at the end of the second period were 21-10 for SAIT.

At 8:58 of the third period, Brekell Otto scored the Broncos’ third goal on a power play, assisted by Karli Fredrick while Trojan Karmen Mooney was off on a double minor for head contact.

The Broncos tried hard to get the equalizer, but to no avail.

SAIT not only won the game, but outshot the Broncos 24-14.
