OLDS — Three members of the Olds Rapids swim club have qualified for short course provincials, which take place March 13-15 in Calgary and long course provincials, which will be held July 3-5 in Medicine Hat.

A fourth swimmer has qualified for Summer Festival 2020, which will be held May 30-31 in Lethbridge.

Aidan Fox, 14, qualified for short course provincials and long course provincials in 50-metre (m) and 100 m freestyle, 50 m and 100 m butterfly as well as the 200 m butterfly plus the 200 m individual medley.

He went even faster during the KSC LC invitational meet, held Feb. 21-22, and qualified for championships which will be held March 19-22, and July 9-12 in both the 50 m and 100 m butterfly.

Rapids head coach Cecilia Wessels says Fox is focused on achieving a national qualifying time in the 50 m butterfly by 2022.

Thirteen-year-old Thomas Andrews qualified for short course provincials and long course provincials in 50 m freestyle, 50 m breaststroke, 50 m and 100 m backstroke and 50m butterfly.

He's hoping to achieve a championship time in 50 m freestyle and backstroke.

Cheye-anne Wessels, 12, qualified for short course and long course provincials by achieving the time classifications in 400 m freestyle, 50 m, 100 m and 200 m breaststroke.

She hopes to obtain a championship qualifying time in the 1,500 m freestyle event as well as the 200 m breaststroke.

Elora-Lynn Snell, 10, qualified for Summer Festival in the 100 m freestyle in both the short course and the long course time classification, 50 m backstroke, 50 m breaststroke and 100 m breaststroke in the long course time classification.

“She has her eye set on achieving a festival qualifying time in all the distances and strokes available before she turns 11,” Wessels wrote in an email.
