The Olds Stingers recorded a tie and a loss on the weekend in Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League action, tying the Lacoka Locos 8-8 at home and losing 10-5 to the Rockyview Silvertips on the road.

Saturday in Olds, the Stingers came out well in the first period, showing a lot of energy, but could only sustain it for one period, as the Stingers and Locos each had a very short bench. The Stingers took a 3-2 lead into the second period, which the Locos managed to even at five after two.

In the third, while killing off a major penalty to Jordan Lamboo, the Stingers managed to score a short-handed goal by Kyle Bouma to pull ahead 8-7, but five minutes later, with only 1:11 left, Taylor Wass scored a short-handed goal to knot the game.

Mike Bouma, the Stingers' coach, said the team showed some excellent lacrosse skills on that goal.

“The boys were passing, they played the fundamentals and they had a great game that way,” he said.

Bouma thought the group played well, despite the disappointment near the end of the game.

“A tie is better than a loss. We would have liked to have had the win, but … the boys had some fun and we did pretty good. On a short bench we did pretty good,” he said.

“In the first period, (the Stingers) were hustling really good. In the second period, they kind of played out and in the third when you … have a short bench, they get played out real quick but overall it was a pretty decent game,” he said.

Bryce Sweetman had a hat trick for the Stingers on Saturday, while Taylor Schmitt, Lamboo, Laine Foshaug, Connor O'Niell and Bouma rounded out the scoring for the Stingers.

The next game on the schedule will be the regular season finale for the Stingers. The team takes on the Strathmore Venom at 3 p.m. on July 8 at the Olds Sports Complex.
