The Olds Midget Renegades will head into an important part of their schedule with a bit of momentum.

The Olds Midget Renegades will head into an important part of their schedule with a bit of momentum.

With playdowns for the zone six midget B provincial berth set for the coming week, the Renegades posted a pair of solid wins last week to prepare for the upcoming elimination series with Strathmore.

The 3-1 win over Lacombe on Thursday and the Friday night 4-0 shutout of Sylvan Lake also put the Renegades into second place in the North Central Minor Hockey Association's Midget Girls' division.

In the win in Lacombe, the Renegades got goals from T.J. Trottier, Alysha Heck and Michelle Pochapsky while Heck, Lauren Meservia, Kayla Proud and Jill Winther scored against Sylvan Lake. Amy Leonard picked up both wins for the Renegades who moved to 13-7-2 in league play.

Next up for the squad is their provincial qualifying home game on Wednesday at the Olds Sports Complex. Game time is 7 p.m. on the main ice surface with the Renegades holding a 3-1 lead heading into Wednesday's contest.

In league play, the Renegades visit Stettler on Thursday and wrap up their regular schedule on Feb. 22 against Stettler at the Sports Complex.

Olds sits three points ahead of Red Deer in the chase for second in the division. They have a three-point lead on the Chiefs, but the city squad holds two games in hand on the locals.

Wetaskiwin has already clinched first place in the league and a first-round bye in the playoffs.
