OLDS — The École Olds High School Spartans senior girls volleyball team is coming off a big high after winning gold in their home tournament on the weekend.

In their home tournament Oct. 14-15 in the CLC gym in Olds, the Spartans beat the Canmore Wolverines 25-14 and 25-18, coach Shelley Smith says.

The plan is now to keep up that strong performance in tournaments in Banff and Strathmore and fine tune skills as they prepare for the 3A Zones Nov. 18-19.

Smith likes the way her team has come together.

“We have a really solid team,” she texted.

“Our defence frustrates other teams, which allows us to gain momentum in matches.

“Our team dynamics are amazing. Kennedy Paget and Brynn Smith bring energy and intensity and Nicole Zumbuehl has a calm, yet very competitive nature on the court.

“We also have a lot of height, which gives us a blocking advantage over a lot of teams.

“They really are just a wonderful group of girls to coach.”
