OLDS — It could be back to the future for Olds Minor Football this year.

Last season due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Olds Huskies and Innisfail Cyclones peewees played in their own cohort while the bantams played in a five-man development league.

Olds Minor Football president Jaclyn Weston says that could happen again this year. Her association is just waiting for a decision from Alberta Football.

In the meantime, the association is taking registrations.

“As it stands, because we can only have the up to 10 – including a coach – we can’t run in camps or anything. So we opened registration for the season this year and we’re just kind of waiting it out,” she said during an interview.

From now until June 14, the early bird registration fee is $275. After that, then the registration fee rises to $325.

Plans call for practices to begin Aug. 3, “providing that we get the OK to have a season this year,” Weston said.

“We’re going to do whatever we can to have the best season that we can make out of what we’re allowed to at the time,” she added.
