OLDS — Some of the players who attended Olds Grizzlys spring camps could well earn a place on the team this fall, head coach/GM Scott Atkinson says.

“I think there's some guys that could challenge for our team, for sure,” Atkinson said during an interview with the Albertan.

“We're inviting them back to a top prospects camp midway through August that kind of bleeds into our into our main camp.”

The spring camps, held by the junior A hockey club in early and late April, attracted about 145 players, not only from central Alberta but as far away as California, Arizona and Maryland.

“We're always looking for players and we thought that the players were of good quality and I'd say better than in years past here at Olds,” Atkinson added.

He said the fact the camps attracted kids from so far away meant that “we had a little bit bigger diversity that has been in the past.”
