OLDS — Olds College men’s volleyball head coach Ryan Marsden is congratulating star player Thundersky Walkingbear on his recruitment to play the game at the university level.

Walkingbear has committed to play for the Thompson Rivers University (TRU) WolfPack next season. He's scheduled to graduate from Olds College this spring.

“We are most definitely excited that one of our soon-to-be alumni will be moving onto a USport school after graduation in April,” Marsden wrote in an email to The Albertan.

“Thundersky is ready to make that jump in level of competition,” Marsden added. “He was very committed this year, especially with getting stronger and in getting as many contacts on the ball as possible to help best prepare him for TRU."

Walkingbear joined the Broncos from his home in Saskatchewan three years ago.

"We have been on a pretty cool journey since his arrival," Marsden wrote.

“The culture that we have been able to create here is something that we are all very proud of. These guys (who are) a part of our program know how special that it is and most certainly is not the norm.

“We wish Thundersky every success that awaits him and appreciate the relationship that we have been able to build with Thompson Rivers University through this transfer.”
