OLDS — Brae Rogalczyk of Innisfail finished first in the peewee boys section of an Alberta Maple Leaf Junior Tour tournament, held Aug. 10 and 11 at the Olds Golf Club.

Rogalczyk, 12, shot a two-round total of 155 in the two-day tournament, edging out Brady Durkin of Sylvan Lake, who finished three strokes back at 158.

That placed Rogalczyk on top of the peewee boys Order of Merit standings with a score of 300.

Joe Kelly, 16, also of Innisfail, finished 19th in the juvenile boys category with a total of 166 (82,84).

Rogalczyk’s best round during the two-day tournament was the first, when he shot 75. However, he ballooned to 80 on the second day.

“I had a really good first round. In the second round I kind of lost it a little bit through the last couple of holes,” he said.

The second day started out pretty cold and windy. Rogalczyk said that affected his game.

“I mean, the wind was playing a huge factor. It was blowing left to right a lot,” he said.

Another problem, he said, was that his putting was “off a little bit but it wasn’t too bad.”

“I missed a couple of short ones,” he said.

Overall, Rogalczyk is pretty satisfied with how he did in that tournament.

“Well, I think I got pretty good shots off the tee a lot and my irons weren’t bad, but I think my shots off the tee (were) probably my best,” he said.

Rogalczyk said his goal is to eventually turn pro.
