IHS students qualify for provincials

Innisfail Junior Senior High School students will be spending the next week preparing for provincial and regional track meets after capturing the top spots in their qualifying meets.

Three high school students qualified for the provincial track meet, which will take place in Edmonton on June 3 and 4.

Michalya Williams qualified for the championships after taking 2nd in the intermediate girls discus. Brandyn Blain will also be heading to provincials after winning 1st in junior boys 200 metre at the qualifying track meet.

Josh Posylunzy came 2nd in the senior boys discus and shot put but will not be attending provincials as the weekend conflicts with his graduation.

All of the junior high athletes competed at IHS last week to earn a spot on the team to compete at the CENA track meet early next month.

The top Grade 8 girl in the meet was Hayley Dowler with Mackenzie Ramsell, Jessica Rinkel, Johanna Cooke, and Amy Severtson coming in as the runner-ups.

Brenton Lane and Brayden Posylunzy tied for the top Grade 8 boys spot and the runner-ups were Ryan Blais, Kelsey Katchiuk, Kade Bilton, and Aiden Carroll.

Kaylee Leischner and Natalie Woodruff tied for the top Grade 9 girls spot and the runner-ups were Bailey Simpson, Jenetta Rutherford, Miranda Bush, and Jessica Layden.

Ben Scheirman was the top Grade 9 boy in the meet finish just ahead of Tyler Penner, Kaleb Denham, and Patrick Fouguere.
