A tough week on the scoreboard has the Olds Grizzlys looking into the rear-view mirror as they look to hold on to a home ice position for the first round of the Alberta Junior Hockey League playoffs.
A week that saw them lose three of four games, all against south division rivals, has left the black and gold only six points up on the Canmore Eagles with 11 games remaining on the schedule.
Most disappointing for the locals is that two of the three games they lost were to the Calgary Mustangs, a team that sits three spots below them in the standings. The 9-7 and 6-1 games were sandwiched around a 3-2 shootout win over the second-place Brooks Bandits.
The week wrapped up with a tough 4-3 loss to the division leading Okotoks Oilers, a game the Grizzlys led 3-1 after two periods only to surrender three goals in the final period, including the game winner by Nolan Huysmans with only eight seconds remaining in regulation.
Of the 11 remaining games in the regular season the Grizzlys play only four at the Sports Complex with the other seven on the road. Included are three games against the Eagles, two on the road in Canmore with the other at home.
This week's action sees the Grizzlys play the first of the road dates with the Bow Valley squad on Thursday before returning home to face the Calgary Canucks, the eighth place team in the division, on Friday night.
Grizzlys Pause ñ On Saturday night against Okotoks, Taylor Elliott, Tanner Dunkle and Bart Moran scored for the locals while Spencer Dorowicz scored the only marker against the Mustangs on Friday night Ö Against Brooks, Corbin Karl and Evan Thompson scored in regulation with Brandon Clowes scoring the shootout winner Ö Monday night saw Zane Jones and Brandon Sloan each score twice with singles from Clay Howe, Clowes and Lucas Grundy in the first loss to the Mustangs Ö In Friday's game Grundy was ejected for a five-minute checking from behind penalty, earning him a two-game suspension from the league. The defenceman is eligible to return for this Friday's game against the Canucks.
