The Pee Wee Cyclones football team got its 2011 season underway last Saturday afternoon with a huge win over the Strathmore Spartans at the legendary McMahon Stadium, home of the Calgary Stampeders. The Cyclones defeated the Spartans 64-8.

In front of the large crowd of friends, fans, and family, the Cyclones dominated on both sides of the field - offence and defence. The Cyclone defence set the tone early in the first half with multiple quarterback sacks and fumble recoveries from powerhouses such as Cole Martin, Elek Himer, Jeremy Klessens, Joel Ray, Carson Papp and Darian Davis.

The Cyclone offence looked equally as strong, running in four touchdowns in the first half and six in the second thanks to Joel Ray, Thomas Layden, Jeremy Klessens, Elek Himer, and a long pass and catch touchdown combination from quarterback Austin Thompson to first-year Riley Gagnon.

"It was a great game but I was most proud of the team's sportsmanship," stated head coach Wally Genz. "The Cyclones helped the other team up, took a knee when someone from the other team was hurt, and we ended up with a team picture with the Spartans afterwards."

"We practise hard and it showed on the field," Genz added. "This is a great way to begin the season because you see the type of players and attitude your team has," said Genz.

The Cyclones try to continue their win streak in Lacombe next Saturday.
