The Carstairs Cubs exacted some revenge on the Innisfail Indians last week, following a loss to the south division leaders the week before.

The June 20 game, which was originally scheduled to take place in Carstairs, was moved to Innisfail prior to gametime because the wet Carstairs field was deemed unplayable due to standing water in the outfield.

The Indians gave starting pitcher Darcy Neilsen a lead in the third inning, scoring one to take a 1-0 lead. The Cubs tied things up half an inning later. After the Indians took a 4-1 lead in the fourth, the Cubs rallied to tie things up in the fifth. In the top of the sixth the Indians scored another run to take a 5-4 lead. Defensive lapses by the Indians fielders and some timely Cubs hitting allowed Carstairs to score 6 to take a 10-5 lead into the seventh.

Neilsen walked six, struck out two, and allowed five runs (four earned) over five innings of work. Indians reliever Riley Wik allowed five runs (one earned) in one inning of work, with three hits, one walk and two strikeouts.

The Cubs’ Mike Krieger was solid over six innings, while Brad Regehr got out of a based-loaded jam in the seventh.

Results from the Indians June 24 game in Eckville were unavailable as of press time.
