École Olds High School (ÉOHS) wrestling head coach George Grant says there are no plans for the school to host any wrestling tournaments this season, but he’s hoping they can do that in spring 2021.

In fact, he’s hopeful they’ll host provincials at that time.

“We’re not hosting anything (this season),” Grant said during an interview with the Albertan.

He noted ÉOHS and Olds College share facilities like the gyms at the CLC (Community Learning Campus).

“It’s a little bit of a logistical problem here with the college because if they don’t have basketball on one weekend they’ve got volleyball. So we really have to plan out years in advance,” he said.

“So we’re hoping that maybe next year – so 2021, in the spring of 2021 -- that we might be hosting the provincial high school tournament here.

“We’ve got a fantastic facility for that. I think we’ve got the manpower here at the school.”

Grant said hosting such a tournament would be a great opportunity to host wrestlers from around the province.

He said it would also be a chance to “show Calgary and Edmonton what kind of facility we have here in Olds, because the rest of the province has seen (what facilities there are) in Calgary and Edmonton.

“I’d like them to come in and to take a look what we can do and how we can host a tournament as well.”
