A trio of Central Albertans has survived the latest round of cuts made by Hockey Alberta.

Goaltender Camille Trautman, of Rimbey, as well as Taryn Baumgardt from Innisfail and Hannah Mousek from Sundre are among the top 28 players who will compete for 20 spots on the under-18 female team that Alberta will send to the 2011 Canada Winter Games.

All three spent parts of last season playing for Red Deer's Sutter Fund Chiefs in the Alberta Major Midget Female Hockey League.

Trautman handled the bulk of the netminding duties for the Chiefs, going 16-8-4 in 28 regular season games, while Mousek patrolled the blue line, chipping in with nine goals and 14 points in 32 regular season tilts.

Baumgardt, also a defenseman, was an affiliate player and got into five regular season games with the Chiefs.

The building of Team Alberta started back in May, when 160 athletes took part in a pair of regional evaluation camps, with the top 46 advancing to provincial camp.

From there, the coaching and evaluation staff narrowed the field down to the recently announced top 28.

"Provincial camp really gave us the chance to see what these girls are made of," said Team Alberta female coordinator, Mike Kraichy.

"It's always difficult making selections, but we are confident we identified the right group of players that have the best chance of representing Team Alberta at the Canada Winter Games." The top 28 will now get ready for an elite female hockey tournament next month in Regina, Saskatchewan, and after that wraps, the girls will be scouted with their club teams until Hockey Alberta names the 20 player roster that will compete at the Canada Winter Games.

The games are held every four years, with the girls' squad finishing in ninth in 2007 when the event was held in Whitehorse, Yukon.

The 2011 games will be held in Halifax, from Feb. 19-27th.
