The Olds College Broncos women's basketball team cruised to an easy 66-7 victory on Sunday over the Canadian University College Aurora, who have played just two games in the school's history thus far. The game was played at the Frank Grisdale Hall in Olds.

The Broncos built up a 21-0 lead after the first quarter, with the Aurora sinking two free throws at 3:27 of the second quarter, earning the team its first two points. An airtight defence from the Broncos ensured the free throws were the only two points the Aurora would get in the quarter as the home side built up a 44-2 lead.

In the second half, the Broncos' point production slowed, scoring only 22 points.

Following the game, Broncos coach Jen Donofrio said despite the victory, the team needs to work on a few fundamentals of the game. In the second half, the Broncos had two shot clock violations.

"At the end of a game situation when we have a big lead, we want to slow the game down. We have to be able to do that and execute, and I thought we struggled with it a little bit,î she said.

On the flip side, Donofrio said she would like the Broncos to run the floor a bit faster,

"We want to play an uptempo game and it's tough to ask our players to do that (with such a big lead) but Ö it was a pretty good effort,î she said, adding the players will continue to develop their skills, their athletic ability and a greater understanding of the game as the season goes on.

The Broncos will now travel to Saskatchewan for two games on Friday in Pambrun against Millar College of the Bible and Saturday in Swift Current against the Great Plains College Sundogs. The team's next home game is a 4:30 p.m. start February 3 against the St. Mary's University College Lightning.
