DIDSBURY - I've always wondered about the correlation between genetics and athletic ability. Now I'm not a science major at all but it seems obvious that those who are athletic would have athletic siblings and offspring.

CARSTAIRS - Wonderful surprise! The 65th annual Carstairs & District Community Chest charity drive resulted in $69,706 for 2017. This is $3,300 more than previous records. In February the board tentatively set a goal of $66,000, hoping to reach it.

CARSTAIRS - A special fundraising event was held on June 22 at the Silver Willow Sporting Club near Carstairs. Clays for Cottage was a clay shooting event, which raised money for the Children's Cottage Society.

The Mountain View County agricultural service board (ASB) members have visited sites of the planned July 2017 provincial ASB summer tour, scheduled to take place across the county as well as in Red Deer County.

Mountain View County (MVC) council has approved a number of changes regarding the conduct of public hearings, including rules for written submissions prior to hearing dates. The move came during the recent regularly scheduled council meeting.

CREMONA - Council passed second and final reading of the Direct Control Bylaw 468-16 to amend the Land Use Bylaw. The bylaw addresses the rezoning of Highway Commercial (C2) and Industrial (I) along Railway Avenue to Direct Control (DC).

Moving cattle to summer pasture is a family affair on many Mountain View County farms at this time of year, including for the award-winning Gano family's Chinook Country Farms in the Cremona area.

Work on the upgrade to the Highway 27 bridge over the Dogpound Creek between Olds and Sundre is moving ahead and now scheduled to be completed by mid-September.

Mountain View County has donated $500,000 over five years towards the Werklund Agriculture Institute (WAI) at Olds College.

CARSTAIRS - There is no doubt that Carstairs produces a large number of great athletes. The proof was on display on the evening of June 12 at the town hall.
