A 54-year-old man charged after he put a woman in a headlock during an argument in Cremona almost a year ago has been jailed.Danny Lyle Grunerud pleaded guilty before Judge Les Grieve in Didsbury provincial court on Wednesday to charges of assault and driving while disqualified. He was scheduled to be tried on the charges but changed his plea.Police were called to a gas station in Cremona on Sept. 17 for a report of a man and woman fighting, court heard.When police arrived the accused had left the scene in a truck. However, police were able to use witness statements and video surveillance at the gas station to identify the accused and determine that he had assaulted the woman.The tape also showed the accused driving away from the scene, which led to the disqualified driving charge.The accused was under a five-year driving prohibition following an April 2010 drunk driving conviction.The accused has more than 60 criminal convictions dating from 1979, including 12 drunk driving convictions.Citing the accused's record, the judge called the latest driving conviction ìshameful.îìIt's incredibly selfish what you've been doing,î Judge Grieve said.The judge ordered the accused jailed for a total of 19 days and fined him $3,000.Man breached peace bondA man who violated a peace bond that required him to stay away from a female acquaintance has been fined.Colin Charron, 23, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to a charge of breach of a peace bond.An RCMP officer on patrol in Olds stopped a van after witnessing a man and a woman fighting in the vehicle, court heard.Charron and a woman he was under order not to have any contact with were in the vehicle.Calling the accused's actions ìreally immature, stupid and dumb,î the judge fined Charron $500.ìIt's time to grow up,î the judge told the accused.Man breached probation conditionA 47-year-old man who failed to ìkeep the peace and be of good behaviourî as required following a February drunk driving conviction has been fined.Mark Brian Abramenko pleaded guilty on Wednesday to a charge of failing to comply with a court order.The accused was charged after police responded to a report of a heated argument between a man, the accused, and a woman acquaintance at an Innisfail restaurant on April 27, court heard.The argument was so loud that it constituted a disturbance of the peace, contrary to the accused's probation conditions.Judge Grieve fined Abramenko $250.
