The first season of the Mountain View Cowpoke Junior Rodeo series at the Raecer Ranching Riding arena east of Sundre wrapped up with the finals on May 14.
The rodeo features participants up to 14 years of age competing in goat tying, goat untying, pole bending, steer riding, breakaway roping and barrel racing.
Starting last fall, the series saw events every month, with between 70 and 80 competitors from across the region taking part each time.
Co-organizer Patricia McKean called the first season a great success and an excellent learning opportunity for the young athletes.
“It was such a fun year, the kids all did so well and everyone had a great time,” said McKean. “We are so grateful for all the volunteers, sponsors and everyone who assisted to make this possible, and especially Allison and Rae Croteau for having the event at their facility. It really is an amazing place.”
The year-end overall winners in each event are as follows:
Casey Cyrankiewicz won the pole bending seven and under event, with Erika Webb finishing second and Colton Hambrook finishing third.
Messina McConnell won the goat tail untying six and under event, with Ellie Havens finishing second and Bristie Kugler finishing third.
Ryden Hillock won the goat tying seven and under event, with Noah Kelly finishing second and Casey Cyrankiewicz finishing third.
Erika Webb won the barrels seven and under event, with Casey Cyrankiecz finishing second and Messina McConnell finishing third.
Tyler Craig won the steer riding event, with Dusty Golden finishing second and Jayce Richard finishing third.
Abbie Lashmar and Raegan Tebb tied for first in the break away 11 and under event, with Jayce McKean finishing second.
Denton Argent won the break away 12-14 event, with Jaymie Conrad finishing second and Kaidance Lashmar finishing third.
Thomas Fischer and Denton Argent tied for first in team roping 14 and under – header event
Kyla Kelly and Joel Evans tied for first in the team roping 14 and under – heeler event.
Raegan Tebb won the goat tying 8-11 event, with Hannah Sheehan finishing second and Casey Cyrankiewicz finishing third.
Logan Bender won the goat tying 12-14 event, with Kyla Kelly finishing second and Denton Argent finishing third.
Tynell Schooten won the barrel racing 8-11 event, with Cora Crouteau finishing second and Raegan Tebb finishing second.
Amanda Harder won the barrel racing 12-14 event, with Allie Pals finishing second and Catie McArthur finishing third.
Presley Chaytors wont the pole bending 8-11 event, with Hannah Sheehan finishing second and Kasha Borsy finishing third.
Kaidance Lashmore won the pole bending 12-14 event, with Kyla Kelly finishing second and Amy Schukburg and Allie Pals finishing tied for third.
The all-around boys winner was Denton Argent and the all-around girls winner was Casey Cyrankeiwicz.
The Mountain View Cowpoke Junior Rodeo will be hosting its annual general meeting in June where planning for the 2017 season will get started, said McKean.
