Junior rodeo attracts 70 young athletes

There were 70 participants and many supporters at the Mountain View Cowpoke Junior Rodeo event at the Raecer Ranching Riding arena east of Sundre on April 16.

There were 70 participants and many supporters at the Mountain View Cowpoke Junior Rodeo event at the Raecer Ranching Riding arena east of Sundre on April 16.

The rodeo features participants up to 14 years of age competing in goat tying, goat untying, pole bending, steer riding, breakaway roping and barrel racing.

“The kids do so well and they are getting so confident in their events,” said rodeo co-organizer Patricia McKean. “We had a great rodeo today. There is so much improvement and kids are getting excited for the finals on May 14. Everyone is getting excited to see how it turns out.”

The April 16 rodeo saw the first successful team roping catch since October, with Denton Argent and Joel Evans making a successful catch and winning $375 each in the process.

Casey Cyrankiewicz won the seven and under poles event, with Erika Webb finishing second and Kazziah McFadden finishing third.

Messina McConnell won the six and under goat tail tying event, with Bristie Kugler finishing second and Elija Lashmar finishing third.

Noah Kelly won the seven and under goat tying event, with Erika Webb finishing second and Ryden Hillock finishing third.

Erika Webb won the seven and under barrels, with Casey Cyrankiewicz finishing second and Kazziah McFadden finishing third.

Tyler Craig won the steer riding event, with Dusty Golden finishing second and Jaymie Conrad finishing third.

Kaidence Lashmore won the 12-14 breakaway roping event.

Cayden Cyrankiewicz won the 8-11 goat tying event, with Tynell Schooten finishing second and Kasha Borsy finishing third.

Logan Bender won the 12-14 goat tying event, with Cati McArthur finishing second and Denton Argent finishing third.

Cora Croteau won the 8-11 barrel racing event with a 14.86-second time, followed by Tynell Schooten with a 14.91-second time and Hannah Sheehan with a 14.93-second time.

Amanda Harder won the 12-14 barrel racing event with a 14.55-second time, followed by Cati McArthur with a 15.08-second time and Jaymie Conrad with a 15.4-second time.

Teagan Brink won the 8-11 pole bending event, with Kasha Borsy finishing second and Emma Webb finishing third.

Kaidence Lashmore won the 12-14 pole bending event, with Allie Pals finishing second and Cati McArthur finishing third.

There were 80 participants at the March rodeo.

McKean is encouraging rodeo fans to come out to the May 14 finals rodeo, which includes a supper and awards presentations.
