Food bank always looking for donations

It's too early to know if donations being made by local people to help with the Fort McMurray relief effort are impacting donation levels at the Mountain View Food Bank, says director Patricia Graham.

It's too early to know if donations being made by local people to help with the Fort McMurray relief effort are impacting donation levels at the Mountain View Food Bank, says director Patricia Graham.

“We don't know because it is a little too soon to tell,” she said. “We are going to be trying to get some food from Calgary (food bank) this week, food that we put out front, and I guess it will depend on what we get as to how much they have left. Usually we bring in seven or eight pallets.”

The economic downturn has increased food bank usage across Alberta, including in this region, so donations of food and cash are always welcome, she said.

A recent event at Sundre Forest Products brought in a great deal of donated food, she said.

The free mulch day event saw people picking up mulch make food and cash donations. In all, more than 2,400 pounds in food was collected.

“It was very, very good for us,” she said. “We don't know yet how much cash was donated, but that's a lot of food.”
