Mountain View County councillor Duncan Milne has been appointed as the municipality's representative on the Didsbury Municipal Library Expansion Project committee.

The move came during the recent regularly scheduled council meeting.

The Town of Didsbury plans to expand the existing municipal library in 2017-18, with the town office currently located next to the library moving to a new location.

Didsbury town council has recently developed the terms of reference for the committee with a proposed membership of one town councillor, one county councillor, one Didsbury library board member, and two members at large.

“As your involvement in this committee is important to the Town of Didsbury, I would respectfully request that Mountain View county consider appointing a councillor to the committee,” town CAO Harold Northcott said in a letter received by county council.

The terms of reference outline three purposes of the committee:

• The committee will participate in good faith to discuss and negotiate ways to most effectively expand the library with the opportunity for enhanced services to benefit residents of both the Town of Didsbury and Mountain View County.

• The committee will recommend to council a proposed project budget for the renovation of the existing municipal library building and the existing town office building with the purpose to have an expanded library footprint.

• The committee will manage the project and associated budget and will at all times operate within the budget approved by council, unless previously approved by council motion.
