Mountain View County council reversed the decision made in committee the previous week to set up a 60 km/h zone in the Eagle Hill area.Div. 6 Coun. Paddy Munro, who had led the push to adopt the slower speed zones, admitted at last Wednesday's regular council meeting that the idea was unrealistic.ìI went out there and drove it,î Munro told councillors, ìand to drive through at 60 km/h you gotta have bail money for me, because I just can't do it.îThe plan adopted by council's policies and priorities committee had been to reduce the speed limit from 80 km/h to 60 km/h near the intersections of Twp. Rd. 340 and range roads 43 and 44 to address concerns from some residents of the area.Last week Munro said on one stretch the reduced speed could even be a safety issue, as vehicles would need the added speed to reach the top of the hill.Council dropped the 60 km/h zone proposal but directed administration to proceed with placing three new stop signs and upgrade the 60 km/h signs in the speed curves at both intersections.ìI'm happy to hear the comments made at this table reflect what our peace officers are saying,î Div. 1 Coun. Kevin Good said. Both Good and Div. 3 Coun. Duncan Milne had opposed the reduced speed limit at P&P after county peace officer Rob Ridley concurred with Chinook's Edge School Division's assessment that there were no traffic issues along that particular stretch of road.A motion to post signs requesting truckers not to use engine retarder brakes was also passed, but with Good, Reeve Bruce Beattie and Div. 7 Coun. Al Kemmere opposed.Good withdrew a subsequent motion ñ for administration to enter into talks with landowners to remove trees obstructing the Rge. Rd. 44 intersection ñ after Beattie said he and Munro would contact the couple and discuss the problem.ìI'll withdraw my motion, understanding that I consider the trees the only safety issue,î Good said.
