Two more people have died from COVID-19 in Alberta, bringing the total deaths related to the virus in the province to 20.
Both deaths happened in the Calgary zone.
In a Saturday media release, the province said it has recorded 106 new cases of people diagnosed with COVID-19, including fifty-one confirmed cases and 55 probable ones. The province stated the probable cases take longer to report as they have to be manually entered into the system, meaning those 55 cases were not all recorded in a single day.
In total, 1,181 people in Alberta have been diagnosed with the virus. Two-hundred forty people have recovered, while 42 are currently in hospital, 14 of whom are in intensive care. One-hundred thirty-three people are suspected to have acquired the virus in the community instead of through travelling.
Alberta Health Services said it is tracking nine outbreaks at continuing care facilities in the province, and 93 cases have so far been confirmed at those facilities. It added strong outbreak measures have been put in place at those facilities.
In total, the province has tested more than 60,000 people for COVID-19. There have been 2,148 tests completed in the past 24 hours.
As of Saturday afternoon, St. Albert had recorded 25 people with COVID-19. Sturgeon County West had seven.
