Construction on Mountain View County's new $2.1-million agriculture lands and parks services shop near the existing county office off Highway 2A between Olds and Didsbury is moving forward on schedule, the policies and priorities committee was told during its recent regularly scheduled meeting.

Work on the shop site began with an official groundbreaking on Sept. 30.

“They are still on track and everything is still going well,” Jane Fulton, manager of agricultural services, said Jan. 6.

The two-storey shop will be about 7,000 square feet in size and will be used to house and service agricultural service board equipment, lands and parks department equipment, pesticide and parts, and will also include working spaces, washroom facilities, a shower and a locker room.

As well it will have a lunchroom, a meeting room, two office spaces and a second washroom on the mezzanine level.

Scott Builders Inc is the general contractor on the project and Netook Construction Ltd., based northwest of Olds, is doing the earthwork.

Plans are to close the building in this week, when mechanical and electrical installation work will get underway, she said.

The water well has been drilled for the building.

Reeve Bruce Beattie said he is pleased that the project is proceeding on schedule.

“It's a good job so far all round,” said Beattie.

Coun. Angela Aalbers said she is pleased with the location of the new building.

A plan to have committee members tour the new building in February is in the works.

The building is scheduled to be completed by May, said Scott Builders spokesperson Derrick Bentley.
