After 27 years at the helm of Jessie Duncan School in Penhold, Karen Norton, the longest serving principal in Chinook's Edge School Division, has decided to retire.

The Field of Honour at the Bowden Cemetery has now been adorned with a proper marker. Last week members of the cemetery committee met at the grounds with local artist Brenda Beecroft to admire the finished project resulting from their hard work.

The Penhold fire chief has a new bar to add on to an already prestigious medal. Jim Pendergast was presented with a 10-year exemplary service bar to his Fire Services Exemplary Service medal during a ceremony with the lieutenant-governor on June 21.

There's a new addition to the stables of Naturally Nurtured. Ley-Anne Mountain recently acquired Star, a 16-year-old paint pony.

It's the feel of the stone that keeps local artist Mark Barlem in love with his chosen medium – soapstone carving. “I'm sure if I was blind I could still do it,” Barlem said. The 51-year-old is a plumber by profession but an artist by night.

The new boundaries for Poplar Ridge and Penhold schools scheduled to take effect in 2014 have been set.

Break and enter A condominium complex in Innisfail was broken into via an underground garage between 10 p.m. on June 16 and 10:40 a.m. on June 17. An extendable trailer hitch and a 2006 Chevrolet Avalanche were taken from the garage.

Telus is getting closer to starting on a new tower in Penhold. When asked about information that indicated a site had been chosen, a Telus spokesperson said establishing a lease is in process.

The fitness centre at the Penhold Regional Multiplex is starting to thrive under the town's management. In May the fitness centre took in over $9,000 of revenue, council learned in a report from the multiplex facilities manager on June 11.
