INNISFAIL - The Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools (RDCRS) division has paused its recently instituted procedure regarding proof of vaccination at schools.

Superintendent Kathleen Finnigan says the move was made in response to the province’s Feb. 8 announcement that the Restrictions Exemption Program has been shelved.

“We have paused our procedure until the (next) board meeting,” said Finnigan. “Following the provincial announcement regarding the reduction in COVID mitigation restrictions, RDCRS has decided to pause requirements outlined in administrative procedure (AP) No. 162.

“We would like to thank all staff for participating in the declaration and testing process. All declaration and testing data will be kept secure until a final decision is arrived at regarding the AP.”

Chinook’s Edge School Division (CESD) has also shelved its vaccination procedure that required teachers and others to show proof of vaccination or a negative test, a spokesperson said Friday.

RDCRS includes schools in Olds and Innisfail, while CESD has schools in municipalities across the district.

Students have not been required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination in any Alberta school.
