With the opening of the new Innisfail Library just a few months away the Innisfail Rotary Club has announced it’s funding commitment to the children’s reading area for the library.

The Rotary Club has committed to providing the funds for the furnishings and the shelves for the children’s reading room. The club’s total donation is $28,749, $6,500 of which has already been given to the Town of Innisfail back when the building of the new library was announced.

“Literacy is one of the international themes of Rotary this year,” said Lyle Duncalfe, who is on the project committee for the Rotary Club.

“This will be one of our bigger local projects and it was overwhelmingly approved by our membership.”

The reading room will feature kids chairs and a seating area, a sofa, and soft seating for kids, said Duncalfe.

Colleen Hayden, library manager said that the area will also have a small programming room, tables and chairs for crafts, and small shelves for the children’s books.

“We are really appreciative of the donation and the support, it will really benefit the community,” said Hayden.

“The Rotary are a good supporter of the library and they always have been.”

The full donation to the reading room is dependant on how the Rotary will be represented in the Library. The club suggested in at statement to town council possibly naming the room the ‘Rotary Children’s Reading Area,’ or through the appearance of the Rotary Wheel in the library.

The money for the donation was raised through a number of Rotary events such as the annual Wine and Cheese Night, and the Rotary Golf tournament.

The library is looking for more donors as they have currently raised $68,000 out of the $130,000 needed for the project.
