A former Innisfail RCMP officer who was convicted of criminal harassment, extortion and mortgage fraud will be back in Red Deer court on July 19.

Hoa Dong La was found guilty of 14 different charges: two counts of criminal harassment, two counts of extortion and 10 counts of fraud. He was found guilty by Justice David Gates on March 23 after a trial held in late January and early February.

La returned to the Red Deer Court of Queen's Bench on June 6 for sentencing. The sentencing did not proceed as defence counsel Ian McKay asked for an adjournment to address concerns around documentation that was received after the trial had concluded in February.

The adjournment was granted and June 27 was set for the lawyers and judge to decide on a date for the next court appearance. That appearance is now scheduled for 10 a.m. in the Court of Queen's Bench in Red Deer.
