INNISFAIL – Both Chinook’s Edge School Division (CESD) and Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools Division (RDCRS) will be allowing modified Halloween activities in their respective schools this week, say officials.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, changes have been made to ensure student safety during costume parades.

Haleigh Sanderson, communications specialist with RDCRS, says the division will be following guidelines set out by Alberta Health.

“Some of our schools will be having costume parades. However, these will take place outside and in cohorts to ensure physical distancing can be maintained,” said Sanderson.

CESD schools will also be allowing some Halloween activities under Alberta Health Services (AHS) guidelines, says communications officer Sandy Bexon.

“Division office sent an email to all principals and vice principals last week, indicating they are able to proceed with Halloween activities, while ensuring they meet AHS guidelines,” said Bexon.

“All COVID-19 restrictions are in place, which means parents and guests are not permitted to be in classrooms at this time."

The AHS guidelines include minimizing close contact with others and following hand-washing protocols.
